Xp and Vista Network requirements?

I have a situation here. I have my desktop with XP and my laptop with Vista. I am trying to network them together, but don't know how and what I need. Can anybody help me please?!?!

I won't need any routers, hubs, switches or something for it? I only an RJ45 cable for them and one modem for only one computer though.

You can't connect an RG45 cable between them directly. You would need a crossover cable.

Or, get a network switch or router.

UK MP's are thieving scumbags.
EU members are worse.
