Using a wall jack, I can connect to the router, and internet, using a built-in intel pro ve 10/100 ethernet card using a regular ethernet cable.

However, i need to get other computers working on the wall ports. using a pci ethernet card Xircon realport 2 10/100, it will not connect to the router ("cable disconnected") and has no IP. however, connected directly to the router, bypassing the wall wiring, it works fine.

using the wall port with a nrmal ethernet cord, the lights on the router flash for the connection to the computer. if a crossover cable is used, there are no lights.

all computers tested work with the wireless pci card that came with the router. none will connect through the wall ports.

please help me connect other computers to the wall ports! why would this not connect?

you need to be more specific about your setup

1- how many ethernet cables can you plug in 1 wall jack? How many wall jacks are installed? If you plugged the computer with the onboard NIC to another wall jack, does it still work?

2- When you connect Xircon realport 2 into wall jack, is this the SAME jack that the onboard NIC was plugged into or is this another jack at another location?

3- Is the Xircon realport 2 in a different computer OR in the same computer the onboard NIC is in?

hi. thanks.

for testing, i am using two wall jacks that are both verified as connected to the router. i am using 3 laptops and have tried all configurations.

including: using the Xircon in the machine with onboard NIC, same results as using the Xircon on the other 2 laptops. no connection, no Ip. Both of these laptops connect with the Xircon directly to the router.

since posting i have tried out another pci ethernet card, this time dell 10/100 card. same results as Xircom.

for whatever reason, only the internal NIC on the Sony, which is an Intel VE Pro 10/100 will connect through the 2 wall jacks.

help! and thanks! this is driving me nuts, im in a big wired house and i cant connect in the office!

i'm guessing you mean you tried a PCMCIA ethernet card that won't connect to the router through the wall..

Do the laptops correctly identify the ethernet card inserted in the slot? There is a control panel applet, which shows any perhipheral inserted in the PCMCIA slot to use.

Your problem seems associated with ethernet card drivers OR the drivers that support the PCMCIA slots - Usually Texas Instrument drivers..

Hi Justin, thanks.

The pcmcia cards are installed correctly, and work fine normally. they also work when connected directly to the router.

these ethernet cards will not connect through the wall jacks. this is the problem and mystery at hand. i know it doesnt make sense!
