Hi,
I’m unable to connect to Xbox Live. I’m not too computer literate.
I have followed the basic instructions of my ISP (Tiscali) and Xbox Support, which can both be found online. Tiscali say they are fully compatible with Xbox Live.
There is an Ethernet port on the back of my PC. I think is a “NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Controller”. I’m using the Ethernet cable that came out to the games console’s box, which I’m assuming is a cross over type of Ethernet cable. I have shared the Internet connection, as necessary and I’m using a Zonealarms software firewall.
The Network Connections window shows 2 icons.
These reading;‘Dial-Up’ – Conneted, shared.
‘LAN or High-Speed Internet’ - NVIDIA nForce MCP networking ControllerI’ve tried any number of combinations within DNS & IP fields in the Xbox dashboad, NVIDIA nForce MCP networking Controller & ‘Dial-Up’, yet I’m still unable to connect.
I’m unsure where which DNS & IP addresses are supposed to match. In one particular configuration I had the message IP address conflict or something. The problem may not be only limited to this.
The best I have ever managed was to get to the ‘DNS failed’ stage on the Xbox dashboard.
I have searched through forum after forum, but can’t figure it out.
Can somebody please see to my cry for help?
Thanks.

You need to enable ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the XP PC.
You need a Xover (Crossover) RJ45 Cable between the XP PC NIC and the XBox RJ45 port, a patch cable will not do, you do have a Xover cable do you not ??
Then on the XBox configuration set IP addressing etc to AUTO, it will then work!

thanks for replying. I'm unsure if the cable is xover or not. It's the cable that comes with the xbox console. H
I have set the IP & DNS to Auto on the Xbox Console but I still fail the at DNS stage.
