WLAN between two computers

CPU/Ram: 500/700

Hi,
I want to setup a WLAN with two laptop computers I have. I suppose to get two PCMCIA(card bus)WLAN cards and an access point to connect the two computers. Is that possible? or Do I need a WLAN router instead?
Please help.

Yes thats right, just get two pcmcia cards and a wireless access point, done.
