wlan 802.11bgn ME MOW DHCP lease problem

June 30, 2011 at 11:36:32
Specs: Windows 7
I bought a refurnished HP Pavilion g62-435dx. It has a 802.11bgn ME MOW. It does not connect to my dlink router. I am using 128 bit encryption and WPA2-Personal. This all works with my other networked computers.

If I first plug into the cat 5 cable and then after it is assigned an address, the WLAN works until the DCHP lease expires. I suppose a could assign it a permanent IP address through the router, but I am giving it to someone else that is not as tech savy as I am. Also, that will not fix the problem when on the road.

might see if there is a driver update for the wireless interface.

usual reason you don't get a wifi dhcp is two folder
wrong wifi password set on laptop
firewall issues.

wifi works when ip is received via wired kinda rules out the password.

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

It is definitely not my password and earlier I did try unsuccessfully to connect after I disabled the firewall. I checked the router logs to see if it was rejecting the requests. I could not find any evidence of that. I don't know. I just installed some HP updates and then rebooted my router, disconnected the WLAN on my computer and reconnected successfully. Maybe it is fixed. Since I got this machine, I've received a zillion updates from Windows, and now HP. Hope one of them did the trick.

Thanks for your help.
