Ok im pretty good with computers but i cant figure this out. I have a linksys wireless router 1 desktop running xp is connected to router by cat5 cable, my laptop running vista is connected via wireless connection. I have a printer connected to the desktop that I am trying to print from using my laptop. I have made sure that both computers are in the same workgroup, i can ping each computer from each computer through the command prompt, but i cannot see the computers in my network under start. I have tried searching the names and IPs in start run \\ipaddress \\compname

it makes no sense that i can ping a device but cannot see it let alone connect to it. I have no idea what to do next, but its driving me off the wall. I have shut off both firewalls on each computer still nothing i can only ping the computers back and forth and thats as far as i have gotten any help would be great.

Did you enable file and printer sharing and did you add the printer to the printer folder on the laptop?

Hi - see the latest post I've just put on (siandem) - I've got a very similar problem, perhaps let each other know if we find out how to solve it?

See responses on my post (siandem - 'so close...' - I've solved it thanks to the suggestion from analyst which gives sequential steps that cover everything - worth going through it - mine was a firewall issue in the main.
