hi! I have a DI-713P and I´m using both wired and wireless computers. Why can my wireless computers connect to the internet but my wired computer cannot? it automatically gets an ip address of 169.254.62.3. its subnet mask is 255.255.0.0. i have read that this is one of microsoft's ip addresses, not part of my router. how do i make it so that i can access the internet directly with the ethernet cable to the router? I am using SBC Yahoo DSL. In the Local Area Connection Status window, it only sends, but does not recieve. I have had this problem in the past, but it resolved itself. I have connected all the wires to the right places and everything seems fine, except for the fact that the internet through the ethernet is not working. The problem is that when I set it to auto, it becomes limited or no connectivity. And, it does not get the IP address automatically. When I hook up the ethernet wire from the modem directly to the computer it works, but then my wireless won't. It used to work, but I do not know what happened. please help!

Ethernet patch cables can go bad. Have yours tested or replaced with known, good patch cables. New does not mean it will work, as they could be bad right off the shelf. Reseat the patch cables, change their physical ports, and if none of that works then hard reset your router back to the original settings. Check for, download and install any router firmware updates, then hard reset the router and try again. If none of that works, I would suspect your router is bad.

the cables work because if i directly connect the ethernet cable from the modem to the router, it works. it is just that if i connect the ethernet cable from the modem to the router, and then from the router to the computer, that is when it doesn't work and gives me a weird ip address. i know the cable works because i tried different cables, and they all had the same outcome.

Check for link lights on both the router and computer when you attach the patch cable. If none, try hard resetting the router first. If that does not work, try another port on the router. If none work, I'd be willing to bet at this point the router is bad. I had a router get zapped and only a couple of ports would work after that.

I reset my router, but to no avail. I think it might be the router now cause i am pretty sure eveything else is right. It could also be the internal settings, but I doubt it. Is there anything else I can do, or do I need to get a new router? If I do need a new router, what should I get? I would also want a print server as well because my current router had a printing function on it as well. Thanks.

Go online and check your router settings.I have a SMC 54g{ very good product} and it can block certain computers, only alow access to mac addresses, etc.Worth a shot!.
