I know there have been tons of posts on a similar topic but I can't seem to find one with specifics. I'm naive to a lot of this stuff so please bear with me:
Can anyone tell me specifically how to get a wireless router to work with my wired network?
Here is my current set-up:
Cable modem connected to LinkSys 4-port router.
Plugged into the 4-port router is a LinkSys 8-port switch, two computers, and a Netgear 802.11G wireless router (model # WGR614)
(although 6 of the 8 ports on the 8-port switch have wires connected, not all have a computer connected to them....I have many wires throughout the house because I wired it about 5 years ago before wired routers and NICs were popular and affordable.)So recently I connected the NETGEAR 802.11G wireless router to my wired router and although I can tell from the indicator lights on the wireless router it's getting an internet connection, my new wireless laptop can't see the wireless router and therefore can't access the internet or the rest of the home network. I can't even login to the wireless router from my my desktop computer. When I login to the wired router from my desktop I can see the wireless router (can't remember which tab I was under when I saw it.)
If it helps, the laptop has an Atheros 802.11A/G card in it.
So what would the specific things I need to do in order to make the wireless router provide access to the internet for the wireless laptop?

You *can* use the wireless router connected to the wired router, but you are just making it more difficult. Replace the wired router with the wireless router. So your new configuration should be Cable Modem to Wireless router. Connect the 8-port switch to the router. You can then connect the rest of your wired connections to the avialable ports on the wireless router and the switch.

Thanks Michael. Not sure why I didn't think of that.
This is what I get for trying to install things when it's way too late at night.
I'll give it a try.

Sorry Michael & Edie...I haven't had a chance to log on to computing.net in a long time.Michael - thank you again for your suggestion - it worked fine with one occasional blip. Periodically for no reason the wired computers on my network would lose their connection to the internet. The only thing that works is to re-boot the computer.
Edie - the wire is CAT 5e ethernet with RJ45 ends/clips.
