Hi,
I need some help on my wireless network. I have USR 8054 acting as my DHCP server. I have 2 PCs connected directly, another computer and an Xbox 360 connected on a workgroup switch. I also have a laptop that often goes out of the range of the wireless router. I received a DI-524 for free with my laptop. I placed the DI-524 on the opposed side of the house connected to the USR 8054 via Ethernet. This works fine for the internet. But to access the shared folders from my desktop computers I would have to turn the wireless router into an access point. I have tried disabling DHCP but that just makes things worse as I can’t even access the internet with DHCP off. I have tried looking for similar scenarios but I can’t find any. I would like to avoid spending the money to buy a wireless repeater, bigger antennas or an actual wireless access point. I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions you may have.

Thanks in advance!

Turning DHCP off on the wireless router basically turns it into a wireless switch.
That allows the USR 8054 to provide DHCP service to rest of the clients on the network. Which is fine. It sounds like to me that the PC in question doesn't know the IP address of the "Default Gateway" which is how your networked PC's connect to the internet. The "Default Gateway" on your network is the IP address of the device that connects directly to your modem. I would run the network setup wizard on the problem PC again with DHCP turned off on the wireless router and the wizard should should discover the default gateway on it's own so long as you tell the wizard the the PC in question connects to the internet through another computer or device on your network.
When the wizard finishes, reboot the PC.
To start the network setup wizard. Go to the PC in question and click on "My Network Places" and click on "Setup a home or small office network" on the left hand menu. That will launch the wizard.
