Comment: Hello, I have a wireless router that everyday it will stop working. I then have to switch it off and on again. Then it will work perfectly normal. When I first got this wireless router, it never had a problem. 6 weeks later sometimes every couple of days it will fail to work. The one in our office suffers from the same problem, and a couple of times a day it has to be switched off and on. I don't think it is the make or model, as they are both different. Is there a configuration or setting in the router that I have to reset, or release some cache memory or something? Many thanks, Steve

Reply: (edit)Go to the website of the manufacturer of the device and check to see if there are any firmware updates. The "lock-up" problem is quite common with SOHO routers. Usually firmware updates fix it.

Reply: (edit)I agree with Smitty. It's also possible your nat table is being exhausted by a machine running peer-to-peer applications or "infected" with some form of malware. P2P and malware can send out thousands of connections. Typically, a gateway device runnning NAT will not release the stale connections immediately. Therefore, when all dynamic NAT ports are used up, the device is not responsive. If firmware update doesn't resolve your problem, then run spyware, malware, and anti-virus scans.
