Hi.

Currently I have my dell notebook setup on the internet using an adsl modem, with the Ethernet running into my notebook.

Say I was going to buy a wireless router tomorrow (I actually am this week), how would i go about configuring the internet to work so that the adsl modem is plugged into the router, and then my laptop is wireless?

(I will use XP's Wireless Network Setup to get the router working properly, but how am I supposed to configure the adsl modem to provide the internet to work through the router?)

Or will Windows automatically detect it, and the internet will work fine straight away? All help appreciated.

As long as the laptop has wireless capabilities (and if its centrino as you say, it should have) the laptop will automatically connect to the router and you can configure the Internet from there.

Sometimes it is nice and does it automatically and other times you are required to select the connection type and enter a bunch of details. This is usually different for every router.

Get the router and it should come with all the instructions you need.

The router will let you choose what type of Internet connection you have and it will ask you for your login info. This will allow the adsl modem to function connected to teh router. Set the router for an "always on" connection and you should be all set.

I hope I answered your question.
