I know this is a very broad question but what do you think is the best router for the money? Which has the best range and enough power to run a good (large) home network? I tried a Linksys WRT-54GS because I read good things about it but it's been nothing but troubles.

Well if you had problems with a Linksys the chances are you are going to have problems with any other wireless router as they are all pretty much the same.
Range is the same for all determined by regulatory authorities. Power is the context you are using it is meaningless. What constitutes a large network. For some four computers would be large which is within the capabilities of most SOHO routers.
Give us some idea of the problems you are having and maybe somebody might be able to help you.

Linksys wrt54g routers are really only reliable with a third party firmware such as DD-WRT. I had lots of overheating and lockup problems with both of mine until I installed the other firmware. They were both version 5. I have read that the earlier versions of the wrt43g routers are a lot better, and have more RAM.
