Comment:

I just bought a DLink DI-524 router, plugged my broadband modem into it and shared the internet connection with all my computers no worries. I want to be able to share data between all the computers connected to the router. That should be possible shouldn't it?(as you can probably tell i'm no expert). What do I need to do? Can someone point me to a tutorial or spare the time to run me through it?

Thanks

If running XP, just run the NETWORK WIZARD on each PC....

Alternatively you have a Tutorial on the PC, go to:

START
HELP & SUPPORT

type in Network Wizard

I have never had any luck with the network wizard. All you need to do is first verify that every pc can get on the internet. Then just right click my computer and make sure that the workgroup on every computer is the same thing. Then if you go to view your network, you should see the other computers. I will be honest that the workgroup will not perform as well as some other alternatives, but it will allow you to share printers/data. Good luck.

You have to makes sure file and print sharing is enabled. You also want to share something on the pcs. Make sure the windows firewall isn't blocking peer to peer access.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

"Make sure the windows firewall isn't blocking peer to peer access."

Just a note, In the Windows Firewall it's called File and Print Sharing. Make sure it's in the exceptions. You don't have to share anything unless you want to because
"%allusersprofile%\Shared Documents" is shared by default.

Thanks guys.

I wasnt running windows firewall but the firewall I am using (Comodo) was indeed firewalling the network. All seems to be working well now.
