Wireless Router connects to network but no internet access

December 23, 2011 at 16:36:09
Specs: Windows7

can connect to the network but not the internet. In IPCONFIG it says media is disconnected. In properties it says adapter is not connected. But I can see the network, I can ping every computer on the network, just can't get to the internet. Reinstalled all the drivers, tried renew, netsh commands, flushdns, disabled & re-enabled. 2 other computers connect to the internet and each other with no problem. Can connect to other WI Fi's too, but still no internet access.

One of the adapters has to be getting an IP address if you can ping other PCs on the network. Check the settings on all the firewalls.

Did you check the firewall settings as I suggested in my post?

The windows firewall will not start. To the best of my knowledge that's the only firewall on the system.

What about Windows Defender? Did you install Norton or anything similar?

Windows defender won't start. When I try to start it I get error code '0x80070424': does not exist as an installed servide. The Windows Firewall also shows error code '0x80070424', but that message says 'Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings'.

The only protection I can see is 'Avira Antivirus', Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Adware Filter. This is not my computer, but when it was entrusted to me it had several viruses and would no longer connect to the internet thru windows. It does however connect thru HP Quck Web, which runs outside of windows so I know it's not a hardware issue. It has to be a setting in Windows. Since the computer was purchased with Windows 7 installed I can't reinstall windows on it to fix the issue.

If the recovery partition is still in tact, you can reinstall 7. Try F11 .
