Evening.

I install residential broadband for a well known UK ISP. There has been some debate between engineers regarding poor wireless signal in large/older houses.

Which solution would be the most suitable to extend the wireless range.

1) Setup a 2nd wireless router to act as a repeater station (master/slave)

or

2)Connect the 2 wireless routers using 200MBs Powerline adaptors to run Cat5e over the mains-ring in the house and setup the 2nd wireless router as a completely seperate AP (pointing to the 'master')

See http://www.shop.bt.com/ProductView....
for example of Powerline adaptors - NB engineers carry the 200MBs spec.

Pros & Cons - so far option 1 uses only 1 WEP key but relies on the wirless signal between repeaters being strong. Option 2 provides potentially better wireless coverage albeit with more equipment.

Anybody else have any other Pro's & Cons to each solution. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Regards
D

No brainer Powerline Home plugs are the way to go 85Mbps is ample for home networking, I have several clients using the "3into1" VNet adaptors and they are acheiving equivelent to WiFi speeds:

By the way you use Wireless Range Extenders to increase coverage...
