Hi guys, hope you can give some advice on the problem I've got on my home system.

I've had a wired XP / Win98 network for some time which has worked well with internet connection sharing (USB ADSL broadband) as well as file and printer sharing. The XP box is about 2 1/2 years old and has been kept up to date with all critical updates apart from SP2

Last week I bought a new laptop which has 802.11g wireless built in. To be able to use the laptop around the house I bought a Belkin F5D7000 wireless card for the XP machine. I'm having problems with the installation of the card. Can anyone suggest where I'm going wrong, or possible approaches to allow me to get a working system with the equipment I have.

As recommended, I loaded the s/w before installing the PCI card. On fitting the card it picked up and installed the (unsigned) drivers OK and allows me to set up the wireless network for an ad-hoc connection. I've been able to get file sharing OK, but can't get ICS to work, but only so long as I don't restart the XP machine.

The biggest problem I have is that if I close down my xp machine it fails to restart again, complaining of lack of virtual memory and not allowing any programs to start. To get back to a workable system I have to restart in safe mode and then do a system restore to before I installed the drivers.

I can't work out whether its a problem with the card, the network bridge (whatever that is), or if its something else I've not thought about.

Any ideas ?

I didnt know you could share your net connection from a PCI card, As far as i know you cant. You could network. To send your net connection you would need a router, I have the linksys BEFW11S4 and the WPC11 card in my laptop. All works for me.

Your connection plugs into the router and then sends it wireless, you can also plug additional computers to the router, This also acts as a network hub for the network you would want to keep.

This as i know, Someone correct me if im wrong but im rather set on this is correct.

I didn't have a problem sharing my net connection on my wired network, so I didn't expect there to be a significant difference with wireless.

The 'network descriptions' available on the network wizard seem to indicate that net sharing should be possible without a router.

Anyone else got any views?
