Hey!
I'm having a problem setting up a small wireless network (basically just so I can share my broadband connection between my normal computer and my laptop or any potential future devices).
I've connected the DSL modem to the linksys WRT54G router and have an rj45 cable from the router to the desktop PC.

On the router the power light is on, the internet light, wlan light and the first wired port light are on, so everything seems to be connected correctly.
The network settings are set so that an IP address is obtained automatically as it states in the manual.

The PROBLEM: I open the web browser and type in http://192.168.1.1 and nothing happens. I know I am supposed to be shown the web based utility set up program and should be able to configure the router at this point but it seems as if theres no connection to the internet. I've run out of ideas on how to rectify this problem.

I will keep an eye on posts for a few days. Any & all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

- John!

I only have 3 suggestions.

1 See if there is some kind of reset switch on the router, I think most have them.

2 Connect your laptop to the router via cat 5 and try connecting to the web based setup entering http://192.168.1.1 and see if it comes up.

3 Connect both desktop and laptop to the router via cat5 and see if they will communicate between each other. If not you could have a defective cat5 cable.

When you connected your cat 5 to either your router and either your laptop or desktop make sure the led lights up for link connection too.

Make sure DSL is connected to WAN and Computers connected to the Ports etc.

If all is ok and still won't connect to the setup you may have a bad router?

Thanks for the reply, the reset seemed to do it.
Now though, after installing I managed to establish a wireless connection between the router and the laptop. Though still I can't seem to establish any internet connection. I have it set on automatic DHCP and left most of the other settings default.

I was told to reset the DSL modem to let the router handle things but still doesn't seem to be working.

(btw, I will replace the cat5 cables with new ones to be on the safe side)

Again any/all suggestions are appreciated. The greater the detail the better.
