I have a belkin wireless ap attached to a wired linksys router connected to a dsl modem (verizon), my laptop is HP with hp wlan 2450 wireless adapter. my hp desktop is working fine with a linksys usb wireless adapter. last week the laptop was connected to the internet, but not the other computers. i now am getting 169 ip address, which i understand is the auto private because i am not connecting to the dhcp server. what i dont know is: is the dhcp controlled by the router or the ap? and how do i check where the connection is failing? all the computers are on xp with sp2 installed. i appreciate any help!!!!!

Some access points can issue IP addresses, depends on what you have. I would log in to the access point and disable DHCP if it is available on the access point. Then I would log in to your Router and make sure DHCP is enabled and no one has messed with your settings. Sometimes you just need to "reset" the router by using a paperclip to push in a special button.

ya checkout the wireless routers config and the AP config too.

If you don't know how to get there try

http://192.168.1.1 in a web broswer
perferable to a computer that has a wired connection to that router would be the easiest way.

Could be http://192.168.0.1 too

Password be default is : admin no login ;)
