I'm trying to connect two computers together that are both wireless to form a 2 computer LAN (to be able to veiw files in our shared folders). I also have a wireless router and already connected both computers to the router via wireless NICS, but our computers weren't able to see eachother even though we were connected to the same router. So I figured the only way would be to connect the computers without using the router. Is this wrong? If there is a way of our computers to see eachther without disconnecting from the router (for the internet connection sake) please help me out. I know how to do this using ethernet cable but not wirelessly :(

do you have them on the same workgroup? are you able to ping the computers by name? have you tried accessing the computers via start>run> //computername ?? for any of this to work you have going to have a folder/printer shared on the machines to access anything...

yup!

Hi,

Yes it is possible with 2 wireless network cards, and without a router. I have mine set up the same way. What you will need to do is disconnect the router, run the Network Setup Wizard on both machines. Then go into your Wireless Config utility, select them both to connect as "adhoc". Enter a name for your network in the SSID boxes. Once your settings are saved, go into Network Connections, right-click the Network Connection, select properties, double click "Internet Protocol" and assign one of the computers an IP of 192.168.0.2, and the other 192.168.0.3, with a Subnet Mask of 255.255.0.0. Click OK, and then go and share folders if you havn't done so. It works that way for me as I don't use routers either.

May God bless everyone along the Gulf Coast trying to recover from Katrina. But let this be a lesson for America to turn back to God. We have forgotten Him by turning to drugs, sex, and other stuff.

that is from the original post
my suggestion is that you use the router it is not causing this not to work, make life easier on yourself, you still have to setup your shares, workgroup, user accts. and permissions...

yup!
