I am trying to link 2 notebooks and my desktop PC using my wireless network. The desktop PC and one notebook run Win XP (Prof) while the other notebook runs Win 2000 (Prof). All work OK on the internet and successfully share a common printer. The notebook running Win 2000 can "find" the other 2 computers and access/download their 'shared folder' and contents but will not 'display' their presence under "My Network Places." The desktop and other notebook running XP can display each others presence, access and use shared folder contents but neither 'sees' the win 2000 notebook and I haven't found a way to get them to "find" and maybe let them access this notebook. They all work on the same workgroup and names appear OK while all the items needed to run a wireless network are ticked and operational. Have I missed a setting or setup which may resolve this 'problem'?

Running the Network Setup Wizard on one of the XP PCs will porbably correct the problem. Be careful to make the correct option choices and do the floppy step, especially on the "odd" PC. This is an often dismissed as trivial step, but it seems to make the difference. It is one of those "When all else fails, read the directions" kind of things.

Thank you, ClydeB, for your response. I tried the Wizard again (must be at least the 10th!) but this time I did make a floppy copy as directed (though I thought this was only needed for Win 95/98 PC's) and followed the instructions to load this into my Win 2000 notebook. After loading and running I got an error dialog stating this program is only for use with Win 95/98/millenium/XP. For any other OS contact your system administrator! Really helpful - I am the system administrator for all 3 PC's so I suppose MS assumes we are all experts! Well if so they are certainly wrong in my case! Anyway, being a determined individual, I persevered and this time in the Win 2000 notebook "Network Connection Wizard" I selected the option for a HOME installation (as opposed to an 'office' where I wanted to let this notebook communicate with other PC's on the network. This I found confusing since the HOME option didn't mention connection with other PC's which is why I chose the "Office" option before! I also selected that only one person (the administrator, with corresponding password used in bootup) would use this notebook and then I was able to get access from the Win XP PC's to the shared folders/files etc. on the Win 2000 notebook. The Win 2000 notebook still does NOT appear in the list when selecting "My Network Places" then "View Workgroup Computers." But this selection brings up the possibility to check "Other Places." In this group "Microsoft Windows Network" is listed and clicking that causes the network name and workgroup to be displayed (same names as for the XP PC's ) and clicking workgroup now displays the Win 2000 notebook (only this one!) and permits access to its shared elements!
While this does resolve the problem of being able to access any of the 3 PC's from any other it does seem an odd and somewhat confusing setup. I did not contiously select only the Microsoft Network (all 4 items were ticked in the "Properties" box for the Win 2000 notebook) I'm not sure if these are the 'options' you had in mind (MS Network, TCP/IP, NetBios, NetBIOF etc.) but it seems this is regarded as a separate but accessible network exclusively for the Win 2000 PC! I am certainly confused but if you or anyone else has any comments or explanations I would be happy to have them, particularly if I can improve/make more logic/sense of what's happening!
