Hi

Just a query:

I have to network my house. I have 3 pc's

1. amd 2400xp running on winxp PRO
2. AMD 1700xp running on winxp home
3. compaq deskpro 166mhz running win98se.

All these pc's need to be networked with there relevant OS's.

How easy is it to install a wireless network all being the compaq deskpro is on the 3rd floor and the AMD 2400 which will be the network and printer server is on the ground floor??

What problems would there be. Am i better sticking to crossover cabeling?

Any advice would be welcomed.

wireless network is very unreliable. I currently use a 54G access point, however when their is so much as 2 plaster board walls in the way, i frequently get disconnected and am limited to a very slow speed

Be safe and use a cross over cable, that way you cant go wrong and are guarinteed a high speed with a reliable connection

Is also cheaper...

I wouldn't call wireless networking unreliable. They wouldn't be offered for sale otherwise.

I have a wirelss network between 2 computers, (one in the basement and one in the 2nd floor of my house) and my printer. My connection is always stable, and have had no problems transferring files or printing documents. The only thing I can't do is stream large video files, but that's because I'm using wireless B equipment.

Distance between the computers will be a factor, as are the the equipment you choose to get. If possible, buy the same brand of networking components to eliminate compatibility issues.

2 Conflicting opinions!!

3 Pc's seperated by 3 floors, the one on the ground floor is the printer and internet server.

How should i do it and what equipment do i need?

all need to be connected at the same time
