A small puzzling scenario that I am facing at home I need help with.
I have a wireless router at home that has built in 3 port switch. My cable modem connects to the router and from the router, my desktop connects to port 1 and I use wireless access for my laptop. I have a static IP from my ISP and internet sharing works just fine on my desktop and my laptop. I can ping from one machine to the other without any problems. Operating system ( Win2K) , Workgroup, usernames and passwords are the same on both the machines. The problem is I can access my desktop from my laptop but cannot access my laptop from my desktop.
Then I tried with wired connections on both the machines. In this case I can access both machines from each other but it is very very slow.I have NetBEUI, TCP/IP, File and Printer sharing installed on both the machines..
Please help.
Thank You

Note the computer names you are using.
There is no benefit to having both computers with the same user names and passwords. In Windows 2000 simply adding the different user and password will allow you to connect from one PC to the other and so long as the user name and password on the machine you are sitting at is also on the other PC you will be able to connect.
In the meantime, open My Network Places and search by computer name for the PC you are trying to connect to.
Get rid of NetBEUI as you do not need it and it doesn't route anyway.
Check your shares. You may find that there are no explicit shares and then the only way to connect is to know the name share.
