Right-click the wireless network adapter’s icon in the system tray, open it and follow the prompts to connect. The software varies from manufacturer to manufacturer but an SSID and security key must be typed in just the once.

Subsequent connections will be automatic.

In case the wireless adapter icon is NOT in the system tray. How do I put it in there?
The help section of WXP only tells me how to remove icons.

Go to Start > All Programs, look for your adapter's software, right-click it and open it or look at its Properties.

I'm sorry. When I got to my friends shop I find out that his network is wired and NOT wireless.
The situation is this. A three computer net that could see each other and access each other. Computer #3 had a MOBO failure so had a new computer made. It has a net adapter.
Computer #1 & #2 can see and access each other as before .
Created shares of #3's HD. and attempted to Map them on computers #1,2. Could not find the connection.
Computer #3 can access the INTERNET and mail, it can also ping the other two computers. A search for #1,2 from #3 cannot find anything . WHAT NOW?

SHARING XP FILES AND FOLDERS
Add an XP computer to a workgroup by right-clicking My Computer > Properties > Computer Name and change the default Workgroup Name to match the existing name, also make the Computer Name recognisable, e.g. MainPC or IBMPC. The computer should reboot.

To share a folder, right-click it and select Sharing & Security > Sharing Tab > and put a check mark in Share this folder on the network and optionally, Allow Network users to change my files You only need to share the highest level folder, e.g. not every sub-folder. A little hand should appear on the icons of those that are shared. Alternatively, drag the folders you want to share to the Shared Documents folder (Public folder in Vista). In XP Professional you may have to turn off Simple File Sharing in Folder Options > View Tab > Advanced Settings at the end.

Windows firewall is normally set to allow file and printer sharing but if you have a third-party firewall make sure file and printer sharing is enabled so that each machine can talk to the other(s). Don’t disable the Windows firewall if it’s the only one you’re running.
