I have built a home computer for a friend and we got a DLink router and DLink wireless card.

I setup the router on the pc with the wireless card, then took it upstairs and plugged it into the modem. I could connect to the router but not the net..

The net is also connected to their other PC via USB..

My question is: Can you use USB and Ethernet on one modem at the one time?

If so, anyone know how?

If not I will buy an ethernet card for the other PC and link it to the router and it should be all good. But i wanted to check before i go waste 20-50 bucks on a ethernet card for a AMD athlon 700mhz PC...

Also is there anything different about wireless networks i should know. It seems to cut out quite alot even though signal quality is good.

Ok im done rambling if you can help please do. If you have no clue, dont respond please as you will get my hopes up..hahahahah Thanx in advance

No you cannot use USB and ethernet connections simultaneously on the modem.
You will need to connect only the ethernet connection of the modem to the uplink or WAN port of the router. You will also have to do a power reset of both modem and router. ie disconnect power to both units. restart the modem first then the router.
As for the cost of an ethernet card for the desktop PC. You should be able to pick up a 10/100 NIC for about $5
Check out ebay or your local PC fair.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.
