Hi guys, Recently i just install a D-Link AirPlus XtremeG+ DWL-G520 Wireless Card with a Linksys Wireless-B BoardBand Router. I got a little problem with this card. After the few hours of explore, I finally manage to get network through the card to access internet. But the speed is not presentable. The download speed is around 2 to 3 KB/S. When i connect through a RJ45 cable to this PC. The download speed is around 13kB/s. I am downloading the same thing. any idea out there that i miss? I never deal with wireless router before. Maybe some setting is not right or will slow down the connection? The icon on the system tray show 11.0MB. I never enable the WEP key. please share your experience....

ya...Compatible....the router is just next to the pc for testing purpose...and the signal is 90%. So shouldn't be the distance problem...any idea?

Could be a potential problem with one of the 2 devices. If both are new, you might want to check with the mfr and ensure there isn't a problem with one of them.

When you connect to a wireless network each packet you download has wireless information attached to it. This is known as overhead. Wireless has a high overhead and will be even higher when you enable encryption. Wireless is also unstable. When packets come out of order due to minute loss in signal the computer will request some of the packets be resent, more overhead.

With a broadband connection I would not be surprised to see a 10kB/s decrease in download speed. Usually difference between 350kB/s and 340kB/s. At the slower speeds you are dealing with this overhead can be more noticeable.

Never discount a defective or poorly manufactured reciever or router however.

Hi DF, Sorry to ask this. What do you mean? i don't really understand. You mean it is natural that the speed of a wireless boardband is slower than a dail up 56k speed? Any way to solve the proble?

Ummm...no. What I'm saying is wireless has overhead. If you have broadband and you hook into the router and receive 13kB/s then your connection really sucks. Dial-up is 7kB/s. My broadband wired download is 350kB/s. The broadband wireless download is 340kB/s.

If your broadband wired download is 13kB/s then you could expect the wireless to be around 3kB/s. But again if your wired download is 13kB/s you have major problems, probably your broadband modem.

hi DF, sorry for my mistake. I do a double check. I went to download.com to download a program. The wired speed is 180KB/S. But the wireless connection is still around 9.8kb/s. I am not asking you whether my connection good anot. but i am asking for help. your comment seem like doesn't giving any clue to solve the problem. Any idea??
