Reply: (edit)You need a wireless router connected to your modem, and a network adapter card on your upstairs computer to receive the signal from the router. If your upstairs computer is a desktop, the card will fit in ar PCI slot on the motherboard and have a little antenna sticking out of the back of the computer. The question is whether the signal from the router will be strong enough to reach the upstairs computer. Connection speeds decrease with distance and impediments.

Reply: (edit)You will need an ethernet to wireless bridge on one end. Then you will need a Wireless USB adapter on the other end. This will connect both ends, without having to run a cable. http://www.dlink.com/products/dwl810/ http://www.dlink.com/products/wireless/dwl120 Derek Precise Networking Solutions www.precisenetworking.com
