My wireless network performance is driving me crazy. Some days it's at 150Mbs and other days it's at 18Mbs. It keeps dropping the connection. I've tried different placements for the router, but nothing seems to make a difference. I haven't moved the router in a couple of weeks and I've gone from 18/40Mbps to 150Mbs and back to 18/40Mbps. What's the deal? Should I start checking sun spot activity? :)

150MBS? What std are you using? G only goes to 56MB.
Anyway, cordless telephones and bluetooth devices use the same 2.4GHZ frequency as 802.11b and g. Using any of these devices?

r u located in an apartment building ? it is possible your neighbors could be using cordless phones causing interference.

Also, do you have your wireless network secured. you could have neighbors jumping on

It's running both b and g. I'm in a house on 2.5 acres of land. The signal strength says "Very low", so I doubt my neighbors are close enough to get on. The only security I have running right now is MAC address screening.

I'm getting the 150Mbps from the network icon in the system tray (Wireless Connection Status). I think it is in bits per second and not bytes per second which explains the 150.

The router is currently using channel 6 at 2.437GHz. I have a 2.4GHz cordless in the room. Would having the handset in the cradle make a difference? (I'm trying that now.) That phone has been here since the beginning.

What would explain the wireless connection running great for a few days and then dropping out?
