I have a DJ500 42" plotter, linked by usb to a win2k workstation acting as a printserver. The workstation then connects wirelessly to a Dlink wbr-1310 wireless router, via a dlink wireless adapter card. The dlink router then is hardwired into a Lan 4 port hub, that is then plugged into the main network wall Rj45 wall jack.

There is a domain on this network with a Win2k03 Server running Active Directory. I am able to login to the domain from the workstation. The Plotter is shared, everyone has permissions.

The domain is on a 10.0.0.0 ip range, and the router is pulling a 10.0.0.55 ip address from the domains dhcp server,

I have ran two configs of using the dhcp server from the router which is a 192.168.0.100 address, and i tried statically assigning the workstation to a 10.0.0.54. All devices are running under the same subnet of 255.255.255.0.

If i assign the 10.0.0.54 address i can login to the domain, but cannot access the internet, unless i have a 192.168.0.100 address.

I have put the workstation within the dmz host of the router.

If i go to add network printer, and browse active directory, the plotter shows up with in the list of printer to install, but when i go to add the printer, i get an error , Make sure printer is turned on, and the printer or server is connected to the network. After it just listed itself in a query across the network?

If i go to add a new printer and select network printer from the workstation its connected to, i do not recieve the error message, and i am able to add the printer.

I have made sure the tcp/ip filtering accepts all requests. So there is not a firewall on the workstation and the dmz is set to point to the workstation

I have updated the driver on the printer.

Should i install a second instace of the printer on the workstation, and change the port to an tcp/ip port? and set that ip to that of the workstation? Then try to find and add the network printer

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

That's becuase print servers usually have their own IP address, that is, connected to the wall jack with a cat5 cable. In your case, the IP belongs to the workstation.

Is it possible to connect it like that as a test?

There isn't a physical cat 5 wall jack or ethernet EIO card in the Plotter for it to physicall obtain an address. I have it hooked via usb to the workstation acting as the print server for the device, in which the workstation is wirelessly connected into the network. Am i able to add a new printer on the worksation and change the port to that of a tcp/ip, and have remote workstations in the network, connect via the ip of the port?

You can add a printer directly to the workstation on the local printer port and then share it through the IP of the worsktation but if you use USB, than the port will remain USB.

In either case, the workstation IP is the only way to get to the plotter since it can't obtain it's own.
