I have a Linksys WAG 54g wireless modem router. I cannot transfer files between computers as the router always crashes about 10 seconds into the transfer. It also crashes sometimes when I print from other computers. I have tried multiple firmwares and changing channels with always the same results. I also get frequent crashes of the router while on the internet. My computer is about 8 ft from the router and the other computers are about 40 ft away. One thing I have noticed is that the signal strength diminishes when the tranfer starts. The router does not reconnect by itself so I am forced to reboot constantly. I used to used a Netgear wired router and am very dissapointed that the wireless does not give me the same performance.

All suggestions will be grealy appreciated.

Thanx in advance.

Hardly sounds like a wireless issue if you have to "reboot constantly"....wireless interference (microwaves, cordless phones, neighbors wireless) could cause you to lose internet and network connection do to signal strength lose but not crash......sounds like a bad router...ever consider taking it back to the store and getting another one?

You are too close to the router. The antennas on both the router and PC should be within line of sight, about 10 feet apart. If your computer is in a corner, move it to the center of the wall. The best way to set this up is router on one wall, PC on opposite wall, but not in a corner. Any metal file cabinets, cordless phones, etc. will interfere with your signal, as D mentioned above. Also remember that your true speed is 54/2=27, half for transmitting and the other half for receiving, then 27/x=true speed, where x=number of computers connected to AP. The system tray lies. X is also affected by signal strength...

Aside from that, I also think your router may be defective, but check for interference first.
