hello i recently purchased the linksys pci 54g wireless adapter. I get good signal (4/5 bars), but the speed is very low and it ranges from 2Mbps to 11Mbps and therefore my internet speed is very slow. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

My wireless router is also the Linksys 54g with speedbooster. I have also tried usb adapters as well as a U.S robotics pci adapter and i still get the same problem.

Kind of hard to tell. You don't actually have a spectrum analyzer so we wouldn't know what is really on the air. Good signal only means a relative distance not a true quality test.

Ways to proceed.

One is to setup a performance monitor test to see if the adapter is actually causing a load on your system. Not an easy test to configure. All sorts of issues can cause slow network from drivers to applications.

I like to use live linux cd's that offer my hardware support. They help take the windows factor out of play sometimes. Again a steep learning curve.

Consider trying a friends laptop or bring yours to their home if they claim high speeds.

If you have high encryption it could cause slow speeds also.

Simply setting router to force the high speed may work.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

my brother has a laptop and another desktop with built in network adapters and he gets 54Mbps constant. For some reason this is only happening on my pc. I have the latest drivers from linksys. Any suggestions?
