Hi, my friend has a problem with setting up his wireless link.
He has a Belkin F5d7050 router and a wireless USB adapter ( F5D7230-4 also Belkin)
OK this set up ONLY contains ONE pc which he would like to link wirelessly to the router.

Firstly we had to link router to pc with ethernet cable to obtain MAC address of router etc. Router is all set up, network secured etc etc .
Pull out ethernet cable , plug in USB wirless adaptor, and we can see our network in the list, signal strength maximum etc .
Click to connect to our network, wirelessly, and it says connected ! NO internet, no communication between UBS adaptor and router !
Have tried Belkin 24/7 help line, changed channels on the router, changed network name , changed using b & g , to b only etc , still no luck in connecting wirelessly !
Belkin technical help have given up ( typical) and ideas PLEASE !

Cheers

Mark

Can the PC get out to the Internet if it is "wired" to the router? Does the PC when connected wired/wirelessly get a valid IP, subnet mask and gateway IP? I suspect one, or a combination of these may be invalid. Have you tested with all firewalls (on the PC) turned off (this includes the built-in XP firewall, if running Windows XP)?

Having established some form of security on the wireless connection of the router you must make sure the exact settings are also established in the client PC. What kind of security did you enable? 64bit wep? 128bit WEP? WPA/PSK?
Open or Shared key? Key number 1,2,3 or 4?
All these need to be exactly right in the advanced settings or you won't be able to connect.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

thanks for the replies.

Yes using 128 bit WEP, also tried 64 bit WEP too to see if it made a difference !

I did wonder if we had entered the key wrongly but tried it several times !

We used a pass phrase to generate the 128 bit WEP, and the same pass phrase into the wireless adaptors software !

It actually says we are connected but theres no communication between the USB wireless adaptor, and the router !
Belkin kindly even have a little picture of the network in the " avaialble networks screen" and both between the router and the usb adaptor and the internet there are exclamation marks or yellows !
But it says connected !!!

Yes we can surf the net if we re-connect the ethernet cable to the pc !

As im mentioned Belkin support have given up now, but we have sat there for many hours going through the same old stuff with them.

Any further ideas would be appriciated
