As I understand wireless networking most speed loss is related to signal interference. Locate your laptop as near as possible to the accesspoint and in direct line of sight or with as few walls/furniture items as possible in between.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

thanx, i am in about the best location for signal. i have ery good signal. i was just wondering if there was any way to tweak my netgear settings or my windows xp settings to make the card run anywhere close to its claimed 240 mbps speed. right now im running somewhere between 12 and 36mbps.

If your surfing the internet/downloading, you will prolly never see that speed. You will be limited by your ISP, the traffic on the net, and the speed of the "other guys" ISP. There is also the time/distance and route of the information passed between you and the "other guy" Your processor and the Processor of the servers you go through also will limit you. exp. go to the command promp and enter "tracert -d www.yahoo.com" to see how many middle men will slow you down. So just because it's capable of higher speeds dosen't mean you will get it.

:D
