Hi,

I am currently experiencing problems sharing my internet connection to another pc/laptop in the house wirelessly.

My host machine (laptop) is connected to the internet via ethernet cable and also has a wireless card buit in.

My Other laptop is connecting to this laptop wirelessly to share the internet.

Now I created ad hoc profile on this host machine and the other laptop connects without trouble. Signal strength is great and all.

TCP/IP settings are all set to obtain IP auto on both wireless connections.

Host machines Cable internet Network properties have ICS enabled.

Internet browses on Ost fine. But the client laptop trying to browse the internet cannot. Always bringing the Page cannot be displayed in IE.

The PC's cannot see each other when in the 'Entire Network' Browse workgroup computers option either.

So they connect to each other wirelessly but cannot leech files, or share internet off the host.

What is possibly wrong??? Please help!

CHeers

You need to assign static ip's to the pc's if they are connecting to each other in adhoc. Though they should be able to share files while using the default 169.254.xxx.xxx ip, it won't work to share the internet connection.

I'm curious how you setup your ICS, as ICS will automatically configure the interface connected to the clients with a static ip and enable a small dhcp server to provide ip's to the clients.

Make sure that when you go to share the connection, that you're checking the box "share this computer's internet connection" while actually under the options for the interface connected to the internet, not the one connected to the client.

When you do an ipconfig or check the tcp/ip settings of the interface on the server which is conncted to the client, you should see a static ip. The client (if still configured to obtain automatically), will now have an ip address in the 192.168.xxx.xxx range.

If I remember correctly, the software firewall is automatically disabled on the internal interface when you enable ICS on another interface... but make sure. So if you're using a static ip on the ICS box, does the other box correctly pick up the ip address via dhcp or not? What do your dns settings look like on the client? (do an ipconfig /all at the command line)

He can't do that because he's running ICS.
