i have a desltop and laptop that i want to wirelessly connect and share my broadband.
laptop has linksys 54g card and desktop has 54g netgear pci card. the router is netgear 834g adsl wireless firewall router.
i have broadband, so i guess you connect router to laptop right to configure. but how to pass broadband details to router so i don't need my laptop on everytime desktop needs internet.
if router gets my broadband details, then everybody gets net access at least i hope. i guess it also means no need for pc or desktop to be on right.
your advice appreciated. cheers.

You should connect the desktop to the router and then to the broadband modem with a ethernet cable.
If this isn't possible then use the laptop instead.
You should've got an instalation disk with the router that will set it up. If not try the website for your router and get the instalation disk.
providing the laptop is working properly you shouldn't need to install the card as it'll connect automaticly.
Good luck
When all else fails ... Use the hammer.

but how to set up router for broadband so laptop or desktop can connect to it and noe need to be on but just router.
what you're saying is just preliminary right but i want router to control my broadband, i heard router is only thing just need to be turned on.
simon

Once the router is setup to connect to your ISP and you've input the encryption key for WiFi connections you don't need to have a PC connected directly to it anymore; only if it ever loses its settings. You can connect to its web interface from any PC on the wireless network for any maintenance you need to do.

thanks. i think its clear now, just enter broadband details in router web interface and then just need to leave my router on for my laptop and desktop to be online.
so once that's done, how does my laptop and desktop get connected, is it just by opening browser that triggers broadband connection, or something else. Cheers.
simon

When either of your computers starts, they will try to "connect" to any available network. They should "see" the network created by the router and connect automatically. The computers will actually have an internet connection once they connect to the network. Starting your browser has nothing ot do with it - it is only one program that will use that internet connection.

I have a linksys wireless router (wrt54g)in my main
computer room with the dsl modem connected to it. My
main computer is hardwired to it and i have a linksys
wireless card (wpc54g) set up to my laptop up the
stairs in my room the signal is excellant. I am moving
down in to the basement where the signal is poor. Is
it possible to hook up an access point to the back of
the wireless router and hard wire it down to my new
room? Thanx ahead for any help!!
