Hello,

I used to have a main PC connected to the Internet and a hub. I then had 3 laptops that connected to the hub and shared the Internet from the PC. All worked great could access shared files and printers through MSHOME workgroup ( basically ran the home network wizard on all the computers)

But recently I change to a wireless ADSL router and ditched the PC, All the laptops can connect to the internet fine, but they can't connect to each other. I've tried turning off the firewalls running the wizard, but nothing works. When I click on workgroup computers I get the error 'mshome is not accessible' ?

Please can someone help, as I really don't know what to do. I just want file sharing to work between all the laptops, and obviously to be able to access the Net.

Cheers.

Kaan.

You've eliminated a few areas of potential problems so this is what is left to check.Click the sharing and security properties on each folder that is designated to share.Make sure there isn't a check in the first box, but checks in the rest.Right click on My network places and select Search for computers.Hopefully it finds them, then setup network places. If everything appears in order but no success yet, check the tcp/ip properties and make sure it's setup properly in there including netbios settings.I have had these issues before and it's always been with something that is discussed here.If i have missed something, please let us know and Kog, post back with results!.

Thanks for replying to my message.

When I search for computers it doesn't find anything. I'm not sure if netBios is setup right, where should it be. If I right click on Wireless network connection, it is not in that list.

Cheers.

Before you searched, did you enter the names of each computer?.Shut down your firewall for a few minutes.Click on the properties of your adapter.Mine is a wireless g pci.Look for tcp/ip, highlight and click properties. My computers are set to recieve an ip address auto from the router.Click advanced and it will say DHCP enabled.Click wins tab and look at Netbios setting.Mine is set to default which says Use netbios setting from DHCP server. If your using static ips, then it says to enable netbios over tcp/ip.And again, make sure the firewall on all computers are turned off.

right, after i disabled the firewalls, the search found the computer, if I double click on it, it asks me for a password - but there is no password?? just pressing enter doesn't do anything.

My IP address are set to automatic. Under WINS > NetBIOS it is set to the default setting.

Ahh ok, I've shared out something on Laptop 2 and I can connect to it, with the firewall disable but not with it enabled

With my firewall on, laptop 2 can connect and access my files (both machines have the same firewall)

So it appears now, all I have to sort out is getting my computer to be able to connect to laptop 2 with it's firewall turned on.

Any ideas on how to do that?
:)

Yes.Every firewall is a little different but look for something like Trusted. This will list the items you consider safe and allowed access. There should be an area that deals with rules and you need to create a rule for each computer you want to access your folders. It will need to be allowed browsing and file sharing privledges and you will have to probably enter the IP address of each computer.Once done click Enter or Create and it should now allow these computers access. Here is a tip because it happened to me.After a re-install and entering all the correct info, i couldn't get my computers networked. It was frustrating. After many hours , i went into my router and noticed that it had assigned both new IP addessses.Once i created a rule using the new addresses, they connected. It's been fine since so must of had to do with the re-install.Let us know if you get it!.

What OS are involved here - what is on each PC/laptop?

Also which firewall(s) are you using?
