Hey I have a problem that has been driving me crazy for almost a month now.
To make a long story short, I just bought a wireless LAN extender for my current wireless set up:
Linksys Wireless b/g upstairs
laptop in my room has poor reception, bought a wireless extender to boost the signal to my downstairs room. Here's the problem- I have it plugged in and to me it looks like its working fine. I go to Firefox and type 192.168.0.1 and it logs into the actual extender (not the router). I go to the settings page and set it to "Repeater" and as soon as I hit "submit" my computer loses the connection and I can no longer access it from any machine on the network and I have to reset it.
Also, it seems to be right after my computer fully connects to the "default" SSID that the repeater is broadcasting that is drops the signal. Even if I didn't change anything in the Extender settings, it'll still connect for about 30 seconds, then disconnect and cannot find the Extender.
Here is what I am using:

Are you accessing the web configuration wirelessly or through an ethernet cable?

I am attempting to access the web wirelessly from my laptop. The upstairs computer has ethernet from cable modem to router to computer.

I think RTAdams89 was asking if your trying to configure the range extender (web configuration) wirelessly or through an ethernet cable connected to the RJ45 port on the back. Usually, it is recommended that you configure wireless devices through a wired connection. Your first post gives an impression that your trying to set up your range extender wirelessly.
I had a lot of difficultly trying to get a Linksys range extender to work with an Edimax wireless router. It was similar to what you describe in that the range extender had a couple of LED indicators which, according to the manual, showed it was working just fine and dandy. But, testing showed that it wasn't actually doing anything. It took a while of trail and error, but eventually I found the main problem is that these range extenders work using something called WDS - Wireless Distribution System. You can read about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wirele...
The Edimax router had an option in the wireless configuration for operating in a mode called "AP Bridge-WDS". Once I set the router to use this WDS, then the range extender really did start to work. The range extender needs to be set up on the router's network as well, but it may do that automatically with the WDS. For example, if the router's address is 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0, then the range extender would be 192.168.0.2/255.255.255.0 and that becomes the address you use to access the web configuration. The SSID and channel is the same as the router's. At least that's how I've got it set up and it works. When it's working, you only see a single SSID for the wireless network, but if you point your browser to 192.168.0.1 you'll get the router's configuration page, and 192.168.0.2 will get the range extender.

Well good news! I got it to work. I just had to connect the extender to the router so I could gain access and change the settings in it (and therefore not get kicked off)
After doing that and hooking it back up, works like a charm!
Thanks!!
