Does anyone know if there is an adapter on the market that will allow a wireless connection to a wired router? Let me explain: I have a wired router and I want to keep it that way because my computers do not have wireless ethernet. However, I would like to have something that works like a cordless mouse where I can connect one piece into my NIC which will communicate wirelessly to the piece I plug into my wired router. Do any of the manufactureres have a product like this?

I have not exactly ever seen a product like that. Well, there are access points and hubs but not small or tiny things. They are the size of a sandwich. You'd have to set up both sides from the laptop first I'd imagine. Might see some of the wireless product sites. I know there are small wireless printer and bluetooth things like that for usb but again, never seen it for ethernet. USB has wireless nics available. They have to be host not client's.

You need a wireless access point. It will connect to your router via cable but will then allow PCs to connect to the router wirelessly (if the PCs have wireless NICs).
However, a wired router is usually the same price (if not cheaper) than an access point and will almost always include 4 wired ports.

I use this access point with my D-Link wired router. It enables me to connect two of my PCs thru wireless NICs, and works just fine.
