I have two computers that are wireless from a Netgear router, one connects and the laptop does not. Laptop shows very good connectivity under network connections. However, IE can not connect to the web. Have tried to reset to default settings, but that didn't work. Used Winsockxpfix and that didn't work either. Any ideas?

Try this. In Internet Explorer, click on Tools, and then Internet Options. Click the Connections tab, and then click the Setup button. Answer the prompts and see if that helps.
ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon X2 4800+
2GB RAM, X1900GT
2x37GB WD Raptors, RAID 1
1x250GB WD Storage

What about security settings? are you using any and have you set the laptop with appropriate log-in credentials?
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

First - you need to check you can reach the wirless router. So dispense with IE for the meantime. Check you have the correct WEP/WPA security enabled and the correct key entered on the laptop. You can, if you wish turn this off until you have troubleshooted the problem.
Check if your router has dchp enabled or not.
If you router has IP address 192.168.0.1 then your hosts(laptops) should have IP address 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3On the laptop that doesnt connect, goto start menu, goto 'Run' and then type 'cmd' to open the command line dos interface.
In the dos window type 'ipconfig/all'
This will show the wireless connections IP address.
Ensure the wireless connection has the correct ip address and subnet mask. In this example it should be 192.168.0.xxx and subnet mask 255.255.255.0
If it does not, you need to change that interface to either obtain a dhcp address automatically or manually enter an ip address.
Goto start menu - > control panel - > network connections
Right-Click on your wireless connection - > properties.
Highlight 'Internet protocol (tp/ip)' under 'connection uses following items' (may need to scroll down). Hit propertiesHere you can manually enter an IP address/subnet mask manually or chose it to auto detect. Leave DNS server blank for the meantime.
Further ,if your routers IP is 10.0.0.1, then your hosts should be 10.0.0.x subnet mask 255.0.0.0
When you have the correct IP address entered on the laptop, go back to dos window and type 'ping 192.168.0.1' (or substitute your routers IP)
This will test connectivity to the router. If the pings are succesfull, the laptop can reach the router and therefor has the correct IP address and subnet mask and will connect to the internet. If they are unsuccessful, check your IP address settings.A trick here is to leave the modem/router switched on, but pull the phone line out so it has no active connection to the internet. disable all firewalls/encryption/security and troubleshoot until you can ping the router. Once you can do that, turn on everything you switched off 1-by-1 and check with a ping each time, finally plug phone line back in when you have full connectivety.
If it still does not connect start troubleshooting IE /firewall settings and host access lists on the router.
Good luck
