Hi, does anyone have this problem with a windows XP wireless connection going dead every now and then? I've setup a home network, with a dlink router hooked to a dsl modem, and a computer running winXP with the dwl520 wireless adapter, and on that machine the reception's very weak. The connection unexpectedly drops, and it's very annoying. I read that it's because of windowsXP is not very good with wireless, also read that disabling the QoS packet would solve the problem. Tried it, and didn't work. Anyone have any suggestions?
thanks in advance

Where do you have the access point installed. Make sure you keep it away from other electrical appliances that might interfere with it. Since it sounds like you have signal strength for a while and then lose it, you might have it too close to something that might interfere with it, when the device kicks on.

Microwaves and cordless phones will interfer with a wireless router. I have xp and a linksys wireless, work all over the house with not drops at all. Check that you have the latest firmware for your router. More than three walls between your router and wireless card can cause a crappy connection.

The access point is on one room on a first floor, and the computer with the adapter at the opposite end on a second floor. Yes, the wireless indicator upstairs usually displays "no connection available" and just like that resumes to "low connection" It rarely has a "good connection" on it. There's no chordless phones, or microwave ovens, not at least in the way of the antennas.
What part of the wifi equipment should be updated? It's a dlink router and adapter. There's a beta version of a firmware, should I download it, or wait 'til the final version comes out?

I have a network with 4 wireless and 1 wired machine which will work fine for anything between a few minutes and a few hours, then suddenly the wireless side of the network will drop out. The IP leases fail and wont renew, and nothing will restore the network until the router is reset by power down or from the wired connection.

This happened first with a Belkin 7630 then I got a 3Com 754 to resolve the problem and it behaves IDENTICALLY !!! though actually the 754 looks like it is physically the same hardware as the 7630.

Any ideas?
