Wireless cards for desktop PC's

i'm attempting to join a wireless network with my desktop, i need to install a wireless card. i can't figure if i need to install an adapter and then use the cards made for laptops or if there's wireless cards specific for desktops?

Either way. You can also use a USB adapter or wireless ethernet bridge.
