I just purchased a Micro-Plus wireless card for my notebook a MP-C100. Windows recognizes the card, and when I took the laptop to a hotspot at a coffee house, Windows recognized the wi-fi network. The problem was that I was unable to connect to the Internet for nothing. Everything is set to automatic Windows detection, and the dial-up is turned off. Any ideas what the deal is? Thanks

In your network TCP/IP settings, you should not enter an IP address. Instead, you should check the "Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server" button. Nor do you need to enter a DNS server. The base station should have DHCP and DNS servers. Type ipconfig /all in the command prompt. Does it display, for example, something similar to the following:

Windows XP IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : b---tard
Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes

Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

69.166.230.15

Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, January 04, 2004 1:31:10 AM

Some other things to note, make sure you have the correct network name (SSID), you may also need to select an option of the form (Ad Hoc), the network channel (frequency) has to be correct and lastly, if WEP is enabled make sure you have it enabled and the encryption is the same.

I hope some of this helps.

Cheers,

Mike
