Hi!

I have a wireless router from linksys BEFW11S4. I have a winxp desktop with a linksys wireless card. The router is in the basement at one end of my apartment and the desktop is on the first floor and the other end.

The card never seems to find the signal. Sometimes it connects but the connection is very shaky.

Is this normal? I would have thought that wireless is a little bit more performing.

The Linksys Wireless Card is crap! I have one too and it doesn't work. I have a Compaq 2180 laptop with built-in wireless and it works fine. My suggestion is get another card.

Thick walls or intereference from cordless phones, microwaves, and other things can cause problems. Also, wireless routers tend to work best with computers on the same horizontal plane; they do not work well vertically unless you have a directional antenna. You'll either have to move the router and computer closer or get additional hardware (like another wireless access point). Good Luck
