I just installed a Belkin wireless G at my mom's house. When the desktop (not wireless) is connected to the internet, the laptop (wireless) can't connect, and when the laptop (wireless) is connected, the desktop (not wireless) won't connect. The connection is fine on only one computer, but the two computers cannot connect at the same time. I have a Linksys wireless set up at my house, and I have no problems connecting to the Internet on both my desktop and my wireless laptop at the same time. How do I fix my mom's wireless to allow both computers to connect at the same time?

Are you certain this is a router you have and not just an accesspoint?
What exact model number? What about the user manual? Does it give you any clues to configuring?
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

It is a Belkin Wireless G plus router. The user manual is online at the Belkin site, but it doesn't help. I went to her house tonight and found out that another friend worked on their computer. Now I can't even get the desktop to recognize the router. If I plug the cable into the router then into the tower of the desktop, the cable light on the modem does not come on. No activity what so ever. I called the guy who worked on it, and he can't remember what he did. Now I have no idea how to get the cable modem to recognize the connection so that I can access the router control panel using the PC.

What I would do is start from the beginning. Uninstall any software that came with the router (if any). Do a "hard" reset on the router (a little pin hole that you have to hold in for 10 seconds)....this will set the router to default settings.
Now, unplug the wireless router from the picture and hook up your original network with only the modem and computer. Check to see if it works.
If it works, now follow the router's instructions precisely! Some routers "require" the cd to be installed before doing anything. Just follow the CD instructions. After it says everything passed do the following:
Go to START, RUN, type in cmd (this will bring up command prompt).
Type in: ipconfig
Write down the IP address associated with "default gateway". Now open your browser and type that IP in the "address" area. If it logs you into the Belkin interface...that means the router is being recognized. From there try to access the internet.
Also try to ping the router IP address.
Router interfaces also have testing areas...run some tests and also could try upgrading the firmware/drivers. Hope this helps!
