Comment: Ive got a laptop and i want to get a wireless network card so i can be on the internet when my stupid brother wont get off the pc. Only problem is where i am its ages out of town and i dont think my laptop would pick up a connection. If i buy a wireless access point from a computer shop, will that allow me to access the internet whenever i need to? Please help me, im getting desperate lol. If im wrong, please explain to me what i will have to do to be able to get a wireless connection. (we cant get broadband, too far out of town). Any help would be appreciated!

Reply: (edit)I think you misunderstand what a wireless access point will do. To use a wireless access point you first need a wired Internet connection. As you don't have broadband I assume your brother is using dial up. In that case you need to set up a shared connection with that connection. Sharing a dial up connection, while possible, will be a bit slow. To do that you need to setup Internet Connection Sharing on the computer with the modem connected. You will then need to install a network interface card in that computer which the wireless access point plugs into. You can then connect via the wireless card in your laptop. You cannot just set up a wireless access point and connect to the Internet, not unless you are within a hundred yards or so of a wireless hot spot. Stuart
