Hi there, i have ran into some bother.

I have a netgear dg814 cat5 router connected to 2 machines running windows xp. I now want to add a windows 98 machine to it.

to do this i have set up a wireless access point (linksys wap11) and its corresponding pci network card (linksys wmp11).

The network card seems to install fine, however when i run the setup for the access point it just gies the message that the access point cannot be found and they dont seem to be communicating with each other at all.

Firstly, the range for these things is supposed to be 1640 feet for the access point and 80 for the pci card. I need it to go through one ceeling and about 3 walls made of that dry wall stuff. Could this be a problem?

If not what could eb going wrong? any ideas?

much appreciated

Is your access point set up properly? Out of the box, your access point may not be on the same IP range as the rest of your network and so it wouldn't be recognized. If so, you'll need to plug the access point directly into your PC via CAT5, manually change your NIC's IP to something in the access point's IP range and configure the access point, making sure to turn off DHCP in the access point (DHCP will be handled by your router). Once it's configured, you can then plug the access point back into the router, plug the PC back into the router, and change your PC's IP back to your network IP range or set it to automatic. Instructions for all of this should have been included with the access point, and should be followed step-by-step.

wirless works on microwaves and there for metal objects and water can cast dead spots or weak spots so keep in mind that if your having trouble connecting try and get and external antena and try moving it around till you get a good reception the better the recption the more thoughput of your network
