Ok guys, need your help, have had this wired/wireless network for 8 months now.
2 computers:

1. Compaq running router and 1st lan port
wire.
2. Clone running air card.

DI-624 D-Link Router 1 D link pci nic, 1 air card.

Have internet access, however, no communication between units, have tried everything known possible:

1. Same Work Group.
2. No Firewalls on XP
3. Shares configured correctly.

When I search for computers it gives me the "U don't have permission" scenario. Contact network administrator.

I have worked with wired only, not mixed networks, in order for the 2 units to communicate would I need another wire running from the air card computer to the router, confused--------

1. Has wire from nic to 1st lan.
2. Air card.
3. Router - modem to Wan.

Would I need another wire from Lan2 to the air card computer or what configuring would I have to do to make things jaive, or direct me to reading, thanks a million!!!!!

no reason wired and wireless can't communicate. no extra wires required.

can you ping between pcs? What are the ip addresses each has?

Give a person a fish you feed them for a day.
Ask a person to internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Haven't tried ping yet, have separate ip addresses, assigned by router, thought maybe it was the router's security settings, but no it says you don't have permissions on trying to access the other computer.

Don't give out my ip addresses, however, can't think of anything else I am doing, windows firewall off, sharing configured, will let u know if I can ping later on tonight on getting home.

Thanks again.

Your ip addresses are the same as mine and millions of others since you are behind a router. Normally you are in the 192.168.1.x or 0.x ip ranges which are the private ip range. There is no problem giving out private ip addresses. FYI

Question pertains to if they are in the same subnet. Not the same ip range you can't communicate. If you can ping successfully you are fine at this level which means no only is your ip right but you have no hardware issue going from wired to wireless.

It sounds like you can browse to the shares but when you go to access them you get the access denied message?
If so this indicates a permissions/accounts issue not a hardware one.

Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.
