We have 4 XP pro PCs with a win2k server.
Using file explorer I can read & write at good speeds to mapped network drives.
When using applications such as VB6 or Word saving a file to a network drive takes an age.
We use TCPIP protocol with no firewall

Umm in the post it says you can do it fine through the mapped drives. Did you setup the server correctly? i mean in terms of the drives?
