I just bought a new laptop and was unable to get Windows XP on it, so I'm stuck with vista. And how it sucks. I've been having problems with connecting to the internet using a linksys BEFW11S4 Router. I get the message that the laptop is connected to the internet but I can't get on the internet. What should I do?

LOL...
Before we work the problem, why do you think this has anything to do with your machine being Vista?! There are numerous things that could be the issue that have nothing to do with what OS you're running.
First thing is first.
Go to the search bar, type "CMD" with no quotes.
At the command prompt, run the following:
ipconfig /all >ipconfig.txt
Copy and paste that here for us to review.
If you see an ip address for "Default Gateway", try to ping it by typing at the command prompt:
ping 192.168.1.1
(Usually Linksys default gateway address is that address.)
Also, is the laptop connecting wirelessly to another access point plugged into the router, or a hard wired connection to the router itself?

The computer that was I was running before had Windows xp home on it and it had no problem connecting to the internet, until it died. It's a wireless connection from the computer the router. Then there is a modem to the router for internet access. Last night I was able to get the internet up but this morning I was not able to access the internet at all.

Couple of things:
Just to make the point, you have a new laptop as well. It has all new hardware, including a wifi NIC. How do you know the wifi NIC in the laptop isn't messed up? Maybe you're using a bad driver, and updating it will fix the issue. Point here is I could go on and on with other completely plausible reasons this has nothing to do with Vista.
Anyway, do as I mentioned above and post back so we can effectively help you.
Also, check your router's wifi settings. How are the following config options set?
Are you using encryption? If so, which kind? Have you tried temporarily disabling encryption to see if it fixes the problem?
Are you using MAC address filtering? If so, have you disabled this to see if it fixes the problem?
Is SSID broadcasting disabled or enabled? If disabled, have you enabled it to see if it fixes the problem?
Have you checked for a firmware upgrade from Linksys for your router?
Have you checked for updated drivers for your laptop's wifi NIC?
