Comment: I have a unusual network problem. I know that the hardware is working because I can ping the local network and any known IP address. But this computer will not connect to any shares, or any Internet URL. You cannot ping a URL (example: www.yahoo.com). This started after removing some viruses and I am hoping that someone can help me get this computer back up without having to purge the drive and installing everything. Deleting and reinstalling all of the hardware didn't help. Kyle D

Reply: (edit)Sounds like a Winsox problem. Do a search here in these forums and the Security forum for several fixes. Larry "Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, 'Where have I gone wrong?' Then a voice says to me, 'This is going to take more than one night.'" Charlie Brown.

Reply: (edit)Use ipconfig/all on the command line (DOS Window) to see if you have any DNS servers assigned. DNS basically "translates" URLs into IP addresses. Try to ping the DNS servers if any show up. Also check this link: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP 98% of the population is asleep. The other 2% are staring around in complete amazement, abject terror, or both.
