Hi I have a wifi router and from my laptop running win98SE I can ping all the computer and even internet sites like google.com

I can access and share files however I cannot surf the net? Anyone know the reason for this?

It is odd that I can ping but can't visit websites.

It could be a few things..

Internet Connection Firewall ( disable it )
and
Internet COnnection Sharing ( enable it )

Test it.. if it doesnt work

OR..

differet workgroup (domain etc..)
right click my computer.. either the both comptures should have OEM or Workgroup as the workgroup name..

OR.. you might need to configure your router
ie: (10Mbps,100Mbps etc) it shouldnt be on AUTOSENSE.

that's all i can come up with for now.

first, a question:

Can you ping by domain name (i.e. ping yahoo.com) or do you use the IP address?

This problem comes from inability to resolve a domain name into an IP address (yahoo.com => 216.109.127.28). If you go to a command line - start>run>command - and type - ipconfig/all , you should get a listing of all of the settings for your network connections.
If the settings for your wireless card do not include a primary and secondary DNS server listing you may not have all of the information that you need to surf.

use the TracerT command to check the MS(Delay)(hops)etc, of a connection.

and no you can't.. you have to ping the IP address.
